“We and the Pharisees work hard at disciplining our bodies and wills by fasting,” John’s disciples said. “But look at you! You and your disciples don’t fast at all!”
Aren’t we often a lot like John’s disciples? Everything seems so dark. Everywhere we look there is trouble, among our family and friends and around the world. So much need to be met – how can we possibly bring about the necessary changes? What is this world coming to?
There are actually Christians who behave in this manner. Always negative, always critical. A sad Christian is a contradiction. As Christians we rejoice even in Lent because we know what John’s disciples and the Pharisees did not yet know. The Messiah is here! Emanuel, God is with us.
