It is all about faith. This Gospel underscores the lack of faith in the Pharisees. They demand a sign from Jesus that will substantiate the authority He has shown and the power He has displayed. Such a request for a sign is the very opposite of faith. It confirms their serious doubts about the very person of Jesus.
Enlighten both our hearts and intellects, O God, to see the “signs” of your love in our midst: the selfless and humble charity of those dedicated to the Gospel, the healing comfort and support of those who care for the sick and suffering, the forgiveness of those we hurt.
May our realization of these signs transform us into signs of Your compassion and peace for others.
