Luke 9:51-56

In today’s Gospel we run into the powerful figures James and John. At one point in the New Testament, these two brothers are nicknamed “Sons of Thunder.” We see their stormy personality today when they ask Jesus if they can send fire from heaven on a Samaritan village that has rejected Jesus.

When Abraham Lincoln was criticized for being too courteous to his enemies and when he was reminded that it was his duty to destroy them, he gave the great answer: “Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends.”
