Matthew 16:13-19
The Chair of St. Peter the Apostle, Feast
You are Peter. I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.
Today, we hear that Peter professes his knowledge that Jesus is the Son of the living God. Jesus gives Peter another title: he is the rock who will build up Jesus’ church. Peter’s faith is what is grounding him, and yes, his gift of faith will have its share of ups and downs.
Lord God, help us to be like Peter, who displayed a strong and steadfast faith. Strengthen our faith so that we may become the people You have called us to be. Grant us the wisdom and understanding of Peter, Your disciple, and guide us as we strive to live out our Christian faith each day.
