Trauma

Trauma and Stress-Related Disorders

Approximately 70% of the world’s population have been exposed to a traumatic life event. In the United States, about one half of all adults will experience at least one traumatic event in their lives. Sixty-one percent of adults report at least one adverse childhood experience (ACE, a potentially traumatic event occurring in childhood). As common as they are, they are largely unrecognized.

We know that unresolved trauma contributes to addictive behaviors, chaos in life, self-harm, an inability to manage and express emotions effectively, and difficulty in interpersonal relationships. Often, those in ministry experience secondary trauma, the impact of the pain and suffering that others share.

Grief and loss that have gone unrecognized or unaddressed contribute to difficulties in navigating life and can worsen mental health conditions.

Our team of professionals offers compassionate care rooted in our Catholic faith and values. Our campus provides a peace-filled environment that promotes spiritual growth and healing. We are committed to an atmosphere that welcomes the ordained and consecrated of the Catholic Church with warmth and kindness.

Comprehensive Evidence-Based Individualized Treatment

Every individual who comes to Guest House participates in a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment, the results of which determine a personalized plan of care.

We recognize the sensitivity required to address traumatic experiences. Through individual therapy, group sessions, and holistic therapies, we meet unique needs and goals. Our experienced team of professionals uses evidence-based therapies (including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)) to treat the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Acute Stress Disorder.

We integrate 12 Step spirituality into our programming and, as appropriate, advocate participation in 12 Step program meetings. Twelve Step programs provide the structure for re-establishing healthy and vital relationships with God, self, and others.

By the end of primary treatment, the client will have developed a comprehensive continuing care plan that prepares them to complete all phases of the two-year Continuing Care Program with the support of ongoing case management.

Empowerment Through Education

We know that knowledge is power in the journey to recovery. For this reason, we provide comprehensive education about conditions as well as coping strategies and tools to address and manage the symptoms. Our hope is that internalizing new information and thinking will result in a fuller life lived with new confidence and resilience. We also offer workshops and retreats that provide opportunities for continued connection with supportive individuals.
