Addiction involves complex interactions among brain circuits, genetics, the environment, and an individual’s life experiences. Process addictions are behavioral patterns that serve as coping mechanisms for underlying emotional issues that become compulsive and destructive. Whether it’s the constant need to accumulate possessions, the overwhelming urge to spend beyond means, or the inability to disconnect from the digital world, these behaviors can spiral out of control, leading to profound emotional distress, financial strain, and increasing isolation.
Cluttering/Hoarding: Hoarding is characterized by acquiring and not discarding many possessions that appear to be useless or of limited value. The clutter created by this accumulation prevents spaces in living areas from being used for their designated purpose. As with all addictions, the condition results in significant distress or impairment in functioning.
Gambling/Gaming: Persons with a compulsive gambling problem are compelled to keep playing, always believing that they will recover the money that has been lost. They lack the ability to set a limit on how much they are willing to gamble or lose.
Internet/Digital: When an individual’s preoccupation with and use of digital resources takes so much time and attention that it interferes with relationships and responsibilities, it can be classified as an addiction.
Spending/Shopping: People with a spending or shopping addiction usually spend more time and money on shopping than they can afford. Many individuals experience financial problems because of their spending or shopping patterns.
Every individual who comes to Guest House participates in a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment, the results of which determine a personalized plan of care.
We recognize the complexity of addiction and offer a comprehensive array of evidence-based therapies and treatment modalities. Through individual therapy, group sessions, and experiential activities, we teach the tools and strategies needed to address the process addiction and build a life of balance and fulfillment.
We integrate 12 Step spirituality into our programming and advocate participation in 12 Step program meetings. Twelve Step programs provide the structure for re-establishing healthy and vital relationships with God, self, and others.
By the end of primary treatment, the client will have developed a comprehensive continuing care plan that prepares them to complete all phases of the two-year Continuing Care Program with the support of ongoing case management.
