Matthew 10:17-22
St. Stephen
For it will not be you who speak but the Spirit of your Father.
Today, we celebrate and remember St. Stephen, a martyr in the early church. He was stoned to death. He was the first disciple to shed his blood for his witness to Christ. This day can remind us that there is still suffering in our world today. We need to realize that Jesus Christ was born yesterday, and the celebration continues in our lives.
Father in Heaven, we thank you for your disciple, Stephen, and for the witness he gave us for you, which actually cost him his life. Let us remember that following you is not always easy, but it is a reality for us. Thank you for your gifts as we continue to celebrate the birth of our Lord.
