Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God
When the eight days were completed, He was named Jesus.
The Octave of Christmas ends today, eight days after the birth of Christ. On this day, we celebrate the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God. Mary’s yes allowed Jesus to be born, and the shepherds traveled to see the new-born king, just as they heard announced to them by an angel.
Lord God, we thank You for Mary’s yes to become the Mother of Your Son, Jesus, and for the world. Help us to remember that we, too, need to say yes in our own lives to follow You in our lives. Help us to journey like Mary did when she was carrying You in her womb.
