Mercy by the Sea is located six miles from the charming town of Madison, Connecticut. Situated on 33 acres on Long Island Sound, it offers beautiful grounds and a peaceful ambience.
The retreat will consist of presentations, daily Mass, 12-Step meetings, small group discussions, healthy meals, and free time. All retreatants will have a private room with an ensuite bathroom.
Mercy by the Sea is accessible from several airports. Bradley International Airport (BDL in Hartford, CT) is the closest international airport and is 53 miles away.
Retreat registration begins at 3pm on Sunday, October 11 and concludes with lunch on Thursday, October 15.

Please note: A full refund will be issued for cancellations received by September 19 (three weeks prior to the retreat start date). Unfortunately, no refunds can be provided for cancellations received after September 19.
Men’s Fall Alumni Retreat
Rev. Thomas F.X. Hoar, S.S.E., Ph.D., will lead this year’s fall retreat. The retreat is sponsored jointly by the Archdiocese of Boston and Guest House.
Father Tom is an ordained Roman Catholic priest, a member of the Society of Saint Edmund, and the longtime leader of St. Edmund’s Retreat on Enders Island in Mystic, Connecticut. Widely known as “Father Tom,” he has dedicated over three decades of his life to spiritual renewal, addiction recovery ministries, and academic instruction.
Entering the Society of St. Edmund in 1971 and ordained in 1978, Father Tom holds an extensive educational background, including a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Michigan State University (1985) and a Ph.D. in Humanities from Salve Regina University.
As President and CEO of St. Edmund’s Retreat since 2003, Father Tom has transformed the 11-acre site into a premier center for spiritual renewal and addiction recovery. Drawing on his own journey, he heavily emphasizes 12-step ministry, offering a sanctuary for recovery alongside programs for sacred art and spiritual growth.
