SR. LORNA HAYS, IBVM, is a religious of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM). Lorna has a master’s degree in social work from Loyola University of Chicago and is currently a licensed social worker with a specialty in addictions. She is also a certified addictions counselor (CAADC), in the state of Illinois, supervisor level. Lorna has been involved in recovery work, personally and professionally, for the last 35 years. She worked for one agency for 30 years, starting as a counselor with individual and group work, then as a supervisor of four counselors and finally as the director for her last five years. During this time, she was also the consultant for a domestic violence shelter. Next, Lorna served as director of Loretto House, a home for women in transition and victims of domestic violence and/or substance use. In addition, Lorna has served on various committees for the IBVM community and the IBVM US Provincial Council and she is currently involved in the JPIC committee, working on social justice issues.

Lorna has been directing 12-Step recovery retreats for the last 36 years, through various retreat programs, Cenacle and Jesuit, and other Midwest retreat houses. Her ministry as a spiritual director and counselor for women in recovery continues. Lorna loves walking, experiencing nature in parks and lake surroundings, and enjoying the birds and the silence of the moment. Reading, going to the movies, plays and musicals, and cheering for the Chicago Blackhawks, Bears and Cubs add excitement to her life.
