Friday, Jan 9

The song continues, “Open my ears, Lord, help me to hear your voice.”  Today, Lord, help me not just to listen to (or read) your Word in Scripture, but hear it, take it in.  Help me do the same when I hear the voices of brothers/sisters, whether friends or strangers.  Today, Lord, let me listen to and hear what you are asking of me.

Wednesday, Jan 7

We often sing: “Open my eyes, Lord; help me to see your face!”  Today, help me to see your face in my weak but struggling efforts to follow you.  Today, help me to see your face in all the weak and struggling brothers and sisters around me.  “Now is the day of salvation!”

Monday, Jan 5

As we start a new year, it’s good to listen to what St. Paul tells us when Lent begins: “We appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.  Now is a very acceptable time; now is the day of salvation” (2 Co 6:1-2).   If this is going to be a new year, what old attitudes, behaviors must I work on to make this an “acceptable time”?
