Mark 7:24-30

The dogs under the table eat the children’s scraps.

In the Gospel of Mark, we read about a woman of great faith who approaches Jesus to heal her daughter. She humbly acknowledges her position, saying, “Even the dogs under the table eat the children’s scraps.” This moment reveals the boundless mercy of God, extending His grace to all, even beyond the children of Israel.

Although this passage is very different from the creation story, where God brings Eve to Adam as a companion, there is a shared theme of God’s provision and care. In Eden, God ensures that Adam is not alone, giving him a partner with whom to share life. Similarly, in the Gospel, Jesus demonstrates that His compassion knows no limits, offering healing and hope even to those considered outsiders.

Lord God, Creator of all, give us the wisdom to understand Your plan for us. Help us to gain an understanding of who You are. Sometimes, it is hard to follow You, but give us the grace to continue on the road. Help us to recover from our addictions. Keep us on the right path.
