For Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, the Jesuit mystic and scientist, the Transfiguration is “the most beautiful mystery of Christianity” because it expresses everything that he believed in and hoped for: human beings and all creation transfigured and made “Christlike,” with divinity shining through ordinary men and women and everything in the created world. Have I caught something of this “beautiful mystery” in Christ and myself through prayer and contemplation? Do I let myself be transfigured by it?
