In all three Gospel accounts of the transfiguration, Peter says, “Lord, it is good for us to be here!” The gospels tell us he really didn’t know what to say. However, he was telling the truth: it IS good to have our eyes opened to the glory and goodness that dwelt in Jesus, because externally he looked no different than anyone else. “This is my beloved Son; listen to him!” Jesus tells them they can’t stay there; they must get back to ordinary life. But if they remember this moment in the difficult days ahead, they CAN stay there — and they will have all the strength they need! So too us!
