Bl. Solanus died July 31,1957, the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits (why Solanus’ feast is celebrated July 30). So, Solanus and Ignatius are forever linked, and that’s a beautiful gift for us all. Solanus not only agreed with but lived out Ignatius’ “Suscipe” prayer: “Take, Lord, receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, my entire will — all that I have and possess. You gave it all to me, Lord; I give it all back to you. Do with it as you will, according to your good pleasure. Give me only your love and your grace; with these I have all that I need.”
