Obedience is a concept most adult Catholics dislike. For us, obedience is for children who don’t know what they should do. Adults tell them – and they follow. We adults can figure out for ourselves what needs to be done – and then choose either to do it or not. That’s not the biblical understanding of obedience. We never outgrow the fact that after baptism the Holy Spirit keeps showing us Christ’s truth and keeps tugging at us to follow it. Obedience, then, is the only authentic way to live, the only path to true holiness. What is the Spirit asking of me right now?
