Often when Catholics are asked what the highpoint of the Mass is, we respond: “The consecration, when the priest turns the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ.” The consecration is essential, of course, but the highpoint of the Mass has always been the Great Amen, when priests AND people proclaim not only their belief in the body and blood of Christ, but their eagerness to receive it and BECOME the Body and Blood of Christ, taking flesh now in their own lives. What a challenge!
