We humans seem to be wired for being more comfortable with what’s familiar (even when it’s dark or unpleasant) than with what is truly new. We know how to deal with the old; we’re wary and fearful of what’s new. That’s probably why we hear more sermons about Christ’s suffering and death than the resurrection. We’re fearful of the newness Christ wants to bring us, no longer bound by old, sinful attitudes and habits. The risen Christ lives in me: am I willing to let him bring new life in me?
