Why does this generation seek a sign?
In our readings today, we hear about the story of Cain, who kills his brother Abel. Cain wants power and prestige. Killing his brother does not give him power or prestige; it only gives him the opposite. In our Gospel reading, this generation is seeking a sign from Jesus, and He replies that no sign will be given to this generation. After all, Jesus gave multiple signs, but the people did not want to use those signs. They only wanted another sign.
Lord God, Creator of all things, we praise You and thank You for all that You do for us. Help us see the road more clearly so that we can follow You. Give us the understanding that we need in our lives. Help us to make the difficult decisions when we have to make them. Give us the peace that we need in our lives.
