Once Peter makes his great discovery and his great confession, Jesus knows that His work is safe, and there is at least someone who understands.
This lesson teaches us that our discovery of Jesus Christ must be a personal discovery. Christianity never consists in knowing about Jesus but in knowing Jesus.
Peter then has the privilege but also the great responsibility for continuing the work of the Church. Peter follows Christ as is Peter’s proper place.
We, too, must not want to compel Jesus to do our will, but we must follow in His way.
