In this Sunday’s Gospel we heard Jesus say, “where two or three come together in my name, I am there with them.” Matthew 18:20
On October 12, 1972, a plane carrying a Uruguayan rugby team crashed high up in the Andes. Plunging into deep snow, the plane skidded and broke into pieces. Incredibly 28 young men survived. Eventually 12 more died, leaving a total of 16 survivors. Rescue came 70 days later. One thing that gave the survivors strength during this period were nightly prayer sessions together. During these sessions, even boys who had never been religious felt God’s presence as never before. For example, as one of these sessions came to an end, one of the boys began weeping softly. Why are you crying?, someone asked. Because, he said, I feel so close to God.
Can I recall feeling God’s presence during an AA meeting? We gather in His name when we meet and should we be aware and ask, we too will know the presence of The Lord with us. That is the way an AA meeting should be.
Prayer: “When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them.” Psalm 91:15
