The William E. Scripps estate was the original treatment facility of Guest House when it began in 1956. Austin Ripley, founder of Guest House, purchased the estate with the help of Archbishop Mooney from the Archdiocese of Detroit.
The facility has been used over the years as a residential treatment program first for the men and then later for the women. Since the building of a new women's treatment facility in 2007, the mansion has been used for retreats, continuing care, alumni reunions, board meetings, and fund raising activities.
