Today is a special day. It is the feast day of Joseph, the husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus. In addition it is also the day that Pope Francis officially takes office as the Vicar of Christ. In no little measure this is a harbinger of a “new spring” although the season of Spring officially begins tomorrow.
It strikes me in prayer that this day is a good time to think about what “faith footprint” I might leave on this earth. Realizing that The Lord relieved me of the obsession to alcohol is concrete evidence that there is something for me to accomplish with my life. Also realizing that a strong faith is required to bring this accomplishment about, I had better review my footsteps today. Am I doing all I can to pass on the joys of recovery? Am I available to others who need help? Am I relying totally on His power and grace to carry me where He wants me to go today? Am I thankful for this new life of mine? These are but a few questions I bring before The Lord this day. If I take the time to settle in and listen, I’ll know whether or not I’m leaving any “faith footprint” in the world today.
Prayer: Dear St. Joseph, on your feast day, I ask you to intercede for me to know, love and serve your foster son, Jesus, more ardently and more willingly this day. Amen.
