The critics are perplexed by the lifestyle of Jesus. Jesus sees no reason to go around pretending He is sad.
The truth of the matter is He is happy. He and His disciples are celebrating – we might even dare say they are having fun, and this bothers the disciples of John.
They simply could not believe that religious devotion and genuine happiness could co-exist in one life. You could have one or the other but not both.
Some folks today are not completely free from that concept themselves. Can you find joy in religion? Pope Francis once commented, “Some Christians always look like they are coming home from a funeral.” How can we change that?
