Feast of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Luke 2:41-51

Mary is the Mother of God, but she is also the mother of a lost boy. She is responsible for him and she loves him, and so she goes looking for him.

The Mother of God is not insulated from being a human being. She lives by faith and that is why she is not afraid of being afraid. She says so tenderly: “Your father and I have sought you sorrowing.”

It is as if she and Joseph were now drawn so much closer together in their sorrow. It is as though searching for Christ is what made them a family — a community. Mary kept all these things in her heart, pondering over them.
