Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mark 1:29-39

After His first proclamation of the message that the kingdom of God was at hand, Jesus found himself surrounded by crowds wanting healing. It was exhausting and so the next morning He went out early to pray and to reconnect with God and the task God had given him. The healing did not contradict the message, and His time of prayer was the source of His strength.

Jesus’ real work then was to proclaim the kingdom in words and to enact the kingdom by caring for those the world would exclude – and all this was strengthened through His time of solitude.

When everyone comes looking for us, it would be wise to remember the balance Jesus had in His life so that we do not become frustrated or discouraged in our serving one another.
