Feast of St. Luke
Luke 10:1-9

The command to greet householders with “peace” is not only adopting common Jewish practice, but it characterizes the message of Jesus’ Good News, fulfills the promise expressed in the infancy narrative, anticipates the greeting issued by the resurrected Christ to the disciples and, thus, expresses the robust eschatological hope. Emulating Jesus, His followers are to respond to these acts of hospitality in deed and word.

The mission that Jesus gives to His disciples is one that we are to carry on.
