Jesus selected twelve apostles to work beside Him. They represented diverse backgrounds, talents and personalities. They were thinkers, laborers and government employees. Some were emotionally high-strung hotheads, and some were quiet, tentative observers. They often bickered among themselves, and sometimes they battled one another for dominance among their peers. They became Jesus’ closest companions and His appointed representatives to spread the good news of God’s grace. These apostles were essential to the task and to the Master. We need not worry about the significance of our place in the life of the Gospel. For us, as with the twelve, the most important part is that we might be with Him.
Lord Jesus, you are the Way. Give me courage to follow!
