“Six days before Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, the village of Lazarus whom Jesus had raised from the dead.  There they gave him a banquet, at which Martha served.  Lazarus was one of those at table with him.  Mary brought a pound of costly perfume made from genuine aromatic nard, with which she anointed Jesus’ feet.  Then she dried his feet with her hair, and the house was filled with the ointment’s fragrance.”  John 12: 1-3

This scriptural passage given for today reminds us in recovery of the constant need for gratitude.  This gratitude is and should be a deep current in our hearts which will naturally express itself in exterior acts of gratitude.  Having this change of attitude we will, like Mary, sprinkle seeds of kindness throughout our community, leaving a fragrance of care and love.  This is, to be sure, quite a change for us from our former lives of selfishness and disregard of others around us.

We have found that our focus is kept on The Lord, as expressed in today’s psalm 27.   “ One thing I ask of The Lord; this I seek:  To dwell in the house of The Lord all the days of my life, that I may gaze on the loveliness of The Lord and contemplate his temple.”

Prayer:   Lord Jesus, as we enter this sacred time of Holy Week, help us to keep our focus on You.   You will teach us how to act and how to sacrifice for the sake of our sisters and brothers.   Amen.
